Schloss Spitz

Schloss Spitz, located in Spitz an der Donau, originates from a fortress dating from the year 1285. In the 15th century, the castle was rebuilt in Renaissance style and was heavily besieged during the Thirty Years’ War when Spitz was the focal point of the Protestant rebellion against the Catholic Emperor. During the 19th century, the castle’s religious heritage was confined to the past. Today, Schloss Spitz is owned by the local community of Spitz that was responsible for managing extensive renovation work carried out during the 1990s. The castle is at the heart of this idyllic wine village.
